Bayern Munich are aggressively pursuing Nico Williams to bolster their attack this summer. The Spanish winger emerged as a prime target for Bayern after they missed out on Florian Wirtz. However, securing Williams’ signature is no certainty for the Bavarian club.
Bayern face fierce competition from FC Barcelona for Williams. Recent reports indicate that Chelsea and Arsenal have dialed back their interest in the winger.
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona are negotiating personal terms with Williams, while Bayern have already tabled a contract offer. The Bundesliga champions are prepared to sweeten their proposal to sway the 22-year-old.
Currently, FC Barcelona hold the edge in the race for Williams, who is reportedly willing to accept a lower salary to join the Catalan club.
Undeterred, Bayern are ready to counter with a competitive salary package. Earlier reports suggested Williams would seek €20 million annually to move to Munich.
The transfer fee poses no issue for interested clubs, as Williams’ contract with Athletic Bilbao includes a €60 million release clause. Athletic Bilbao are also prepared to offer him a lucrative deal to remain with the club.
For Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, and recruitment chief, Christoph Freund, strengthening the attack is a critical challenge. Other targets on Bayern’s radar present their own complications, making Williams a focal point of their transfer strategy.
This summer is pivotal for Eberl and Freund as they aim to build on the foundation laid by coach Vincent Kompany in his first season.
Bayern fell short in the Champions League and DFB-Pokal this term, underscoring the need for improvement to defend their Bundesliga title.
Securing a talent like Williams could be a game-changer for the Bavarians as they strive to reclaim dominance in German football and compete on the European stage.
