French midfielder Paul Pogba scored his first goal since January 2021 as Manchester United was held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley at the Old Trafford on Tuesday.
Burnley is seated at the bottom of the table but that did not stop them from getting a point against the Red Devils although the team is yet to get its second win in the Premier League this season.
It was a great start for Manchester United, who was knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough last weekend on a penalty shootout. Ralf Rangnick’s side had French midfielder Paul Pogba to thank with his goal in the 18th minute of the game, assisted by Luke Shaw.
United was in the lead into the break before Jay Rodriguez scored the equalizer for the clarets immediately after the break with his first goal in fifty Premier League matches.
Burnley is at bottom of the Premier League table with 14 points from 20 games as they are four points away from safety.
Manchester United have lost more ground in the race for a place in the top four as they sit in the fifth position with 39 points. They are one less than West Ham United in 4th, 3 more than Arsenal in 6th, albeit they have played a game less compared to West Ham United but have played two more than Arsenal who has three games outstanding.
Meanwhile, in another game, Frank Lampard started his reign as Everton boss with his 3-1 loss to Newcastle United at St James’s Park. Newcastle is one of the highest spenders from the January transfer window, and it’s reflected in their results against the Toffees.
In the game, two own goals within a minute put the score at 1-1 in the 37th minute. Ryan Fraser put Newcastle in front in the second half before Kieran Trippier scored a late freekick as Newcastle moved out of the bottom three.
Jarred Bowen scored in the 68th minute to hand West Ham United crucial three points in the race for the top four against Watford.
