Carlo Ancelotti has officially been unveiled as the new head coach of the Brazil national football team. Ancelotti joins Brazil after a highly successful second spell at Real Madrid, where he won the UEFA Champions League three times and La Liga twice. His illustrious career also includes league titles in England with Chelsea, in France with Paris Saint-Germain, and in Germany with Bayern Munich.
Notably, he also guided AC Milan to two Champions League triumphs. His wealth of experience is expected to bring much-needed stability and success to a struggling Brazilian side.
Brazil has not lifted the World Cup since 2002 and has endured a turbulent period in recent years. Ancelotti replaces Dorival Junior, who was dismissed following a 4-1 loss to rivals Argentina in March, a defeat that capped off a string of poor performances. The pressure now falls on Ancelotti to reverse Brazil’s fortunes and guide the Selecao back to winning ways.
The Italian’s first test comes in June when Brazil faces Ecuador away on the 5th, followed by a home qualifier against Paraguay in Sao Paulo on the 10th.
With just four matches remaining in South American qualifying, Brazil currently sits fourth, a position that would see them qualify directly for the 2026 tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. However, the recent form has raised concerns.
Since their quarter-final exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they lost to Croatia on penalties, Brazil has won only five of their last 14 matches, conceding 16 goals in the process.
