Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher criticizes Jurgen Klopp’s men for a shocking defensive performance against Manchester United

Liverpool and Manchester United did not have great starts to their new Premier League season while going head to head against each other at the Old Trafford for the epic clash. To everyone’s surprise the Red Devils came out all guns blazing after a humiliation against Brentford last week and they were on the front foot right from the start. Jadon Sancho soon found the opening goal, sending the entire Liverpool defenders, including goalkeeper Alisson, into tatters.

The second half saw more of the same as Marcus Rashford doubled the lead and Liverpool were once again chasing the game big time and could only manage to score a late consolation that came from Mohamed Salah’s header. The Reds tried pushing the United defence and even tested David de Gea but the Red Devils were absolutely on point for this big clash and this allowed new manager Erik ten Hag to get his first win at the Theatre of Dreams.

Former Liverpool centre back and captain Jamie Carrgher was absolutely distraught with the Liverpool defence and felt that they never got going in the game. He shared how Liverpool were ot ready for a Derby game whereas United came well prepared and were mentally in the correct space and that is a point of concern for last season’s champions league runners up.

“Liverpool were absolutely shocking defensively. They were not at the races at all,” Carragher said.
“Every time United went forward in that first half they looked like they were going to score. It was embarrassing. Liverpool were all over the place. United were outstanding, but Liverpool weren’t ready for a derby game. They didn’t look ready for the game and that will worry Jurgen Klopp right now,” he added.

Liverpool started their campaign with a draw against Fulham and then somehow salvaged a point against Crystal Palace when they were a man down and also a goal down. Now they have lost their third game and are pretty low in the league standings. With Manchester City looking really good and Arsenal with their perfect start to the new campaign, Liverpool are lagging way behind at the moment and Klopp’s men should buck up real quick to have any catch at catching them up.

The primary concern for the Reds has to be the injury concerns that they have currently right now with plenty of regular starters down and it does not bode well for them going into future matches in the Premier League.
