Former Liverpool forward Michael Owen feels former FC Porto forward Luis Diaz is a perfect fit for the Reds

Liverpool despite, being a very successful club under Jurgen Klopp needs to look beyond their trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. Therefore they have signed some amazing players in Diogo Jota and Luiz Diaz. While Jota has already made a name for himself in the short say that he has had at Anfield. Similarly, Luis Diaz will also have to prove himself at Merseyside.

Diaz joined Liverpool in the winter transfer window from FC Porto as people at Liverpool feel that he is the right player to fit in seamlessly in Klopp’s system. The youngster has already enjoyed his initial few weeks in the Premier League and is gradually settling into the Merseyside ways.

The Colombian forward impressed everyone at the Copa America, as he took down defences at will. Diaz was exceptional at the tournament and caught the eye of some of the top clubs across Europe, including Liverpool.

Diaz is fast, skilful and direct giving a different dimension to the already stacked Liverpool forwardline. With every signing that Klopp makes, it only forces the likes of Firmino, Salah and Mane to up their game or they know there is someone who can replace them on the pitch.

Having watched the youngster for some time now since his January move from Portugal former Liverpool forward Michael Owens feels that Diaz belongs to Anfield and to the system that Klopp wants to implement. “I was doing the game for BT when he first played and I said on air at the time that this lad looks as if he’s born for that red shirt,” Owen told in an interview with Sportskeeda.

The former England international highlighted how Diaz’s off the ball movement impressed him. He shared how the Liverpool faithful enjoy a high press and Diaz is just like a player who would fit in very seamlessly at Anfield.

“His style of play, I know he’s a good player, I’ve covered the Champions League for years, but off the ball, as soon as he lost the ball I just saw him as a Liverpool player. He fits like a glove. They press high, the fans love it when they see someone winning it back, chasing and he was doing it in the first minute in that red shirt,” Owen added.

Currently, Diaz is settling in and has mostly made friends with Spanish or Portuguese speaking players at Anfield like Roberto Firmino, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota. He is gradually getting accustomed and soon the performances will prove that on the pitch.
