Former Manchester City striker takes charge at Burnley

Recently relegated Burnley swiftly replaced Vincent Kompany with a former Manchester City striker and also his former assistant to Craig Bellamy on a temporary basis.

The Clarets finished in the relegation zone in the just concluded 2023/2024 Premier League season and quickly lost their manager to Bayern Munich despite choosing not to sack him after finishing in ninth position, failing to keep them up after getting them promoted.

The Turf Moor side announced that the are still actively searching for a new manager who would be in charge on a permanent basis but that the former Liverpool and Newcastle striker will take charge of the team on a temporary basis before the staff of the season.

The Welshman has previously been an assistant manager to Vincent company first when the Belgian was at under left before also joining him in the Premier League the 44 years old will be assisted by the first team coach Mike Jackson.

Mike Jackson was in temporary charge of the team after the departure of Sean Dyche in the 2021-22 season. The club in a statement said that they believed in the experience in experience of both individuals to lead the team.

“We have complete faith in Craig and Mike and believe their extensive experience and deep understanding of the club make them the perfect candidates to lead the team at this important time,” Burnley said in a statement.

This came just barely 24 hours after Vincent Kompany was unveiled as Bayern Munich manager in Germany. A couple of names have been linked to the vacant post at Turf Moor with Ex-Chelsea and Everton boss Frank Lampard, former Fulham boss Scott Parker, both involved. Former Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper was previously in the running but he has turned down any potential move to the Clarets who will play in the championship next season.
