Bayern Munich are preparing a summer move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze after conceding defeat in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz. With Wirtz expected to join Liverpool, the Bundesliga champions have begun exploring alternative attacking options to strengthen new head coach Vincent Kompany’s squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Eze, who has had a standout season with Crystal Palace, is reportedly at the top of Bayern’s shortlist. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder has a release clause set at £60 million, with an additional £8 million in potential add-ons. The German giants are optimistic about their chances of securing the England international, especially given their strong relationship with Palace, established during the transfer of Michael Olise last year.
Vincent Kompany, recently appointed as Bayern’s head coach, is eager to reinforce his attack with dynamic and versatile talents. Alongside Eze, Kompany is also eyeing potential moves for AC Milan forward Rafael Leao and Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma. Both players have impressed in recent seasons and would bring pace, creativity, and flair to Bayern’s front line.
The shift in Bayern’s transfer strategy follows their acknowledgment that Wirtz is set to join Premier League side Liverpool. Wirtz had been Kompany’s primary target to fill the creative midfield role, but with the player’s heart seemingly set on Anfield, Bayern are moving swiftly to avoid missing out on other top talents.
Eze’s impressive form this season has attracted attention from multiple European clubs, but Bayern’s willingness to meet his release clause and offer him Champions League football could be decisive. His versatility, ability to carry the ball and goal-scoring prowess make him a suitable replacement for the type of creativity Wirtz would have brought.
Meanwhile, Bayern’s players are currently on a brief off-season break before regrouping for the FIFA Club World Cup. Their first fixture in the tournament will be against Auckland City on June 15, as Kompany looks to begin his tenure with silverware and a refreshed squad full of ambition and attacking strength.
