AC Milan have given an update on the contract status of skipper Mike Maignan, while providing injury updates on Christian Pulisic and striker Gimenez.
The Diabolo had said they won’t put pressure on the French goalie to sign a new contract.
However, defender Matteo Gabbia is openly begging his goalkeeper to stay as the France international is in a strange situation, as his current deal runs to June 2026.
It’s no longer news that Rossoneri turned down various offers to sell over the summer, with Chelsea being the forefront club in pursuit of his signature.
Director of sport Igli Tare had said last week said the club had already discussed with him and his agents to wait until the end of the season and not “put pressure” on each other.
Gabbia, who doesn’t read this memo, evidently does not agree with this strategy. He is openly appealing for the goalkeeper to extend his stay.
Reacting to his comment via Instagram on the victory over Lazio last weekend in the Serie A, Gabbia wrote, “Please, sign.”
If there is no agreement next summer, there will surely be no shortage of clubs ready to pounce on a free agent of such quality.
Chelsea are widely believed to be at the front of the queue, as Sanchez has not been that reliable in between the sticks.
Should he decide not to extend his stay, he would be the second world-class goalkeeper to leave Milan as a free agent after Gianluigi Donnarumma went to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.
Coincidentally, he was signed as a replacement for the Italy international from Lille for €16.4m.
It is expected that Milan will be eyeing a replacement for the goalie should he decide not to stay at the club beyond next summer.
But his next destination is yet to be decided, should that be the case. He will be open to having a pre-agreement with any foreign club.
