I was super nervous: Cristiano Ronaldo admits after making memorable second debut for Manchester United

Manchester United new signing Cristiano Ronaldo admitted that he was nervous before he made his second debut for the Red Devils. As expected, the Portuguese striker started in the playing XI of the team and quickly set the ball rolling.

Ronaldo scored in the stoppage time of the first half when the Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman struggled to make a clean save and the forward scored on the rebound. Subsequently, Newcastle were able to equalise in the 56th minute when Javier Manquillo scored.

However, Ronaldo once again gave the lead to the hosts for the second time in the match as he scored after six minutes. Luke Shaw provided the assist and Ronaldo was able to find the back of the net as he got the ball through Newcastle’s goalkeeper’s legs.

Bruno Fernandes then scored a ripper whereas Jesse Lingard scored in injury time to hand a convincing 4-1 victory to Manchester United.

Ronaldo revealed that the home crowd helped him calm his nerves as he returned to Old Trafford after a long gap of more than 12 years.

“It’s unbelievable,” he said of the support. “When I started the game I was so nervous, I swear. But I think it was normal.

“I didn’t expect they would sing all game my name so I was very nervous. Maybe it didn’t show, but I was. The reception is incredible, but I’m here to win games, to help the team and get the club back where they deserve.”

Ronaldo was delighted to score a brace on his homecoming to Manchester United.

“I expected one, but not two. “Of course, I’m happy to score the goals, I won’t deny that, but the most important thing is the team. they played consistently, they played at a high level and most of the time, we showed mature intelligence so I’m proud of that.”

The star striker added that he belongs to Manchester United as he has always received huge respect at the club by the management as well as from the fans.

“I belong to Man Utd. I arrived here at 18 years old, they treated me unbelievably and this is why I came back. I’m so proud to be here and I want to win.”
