Nottingham Forest promoted to the Premier League for the 2022/2023 season

Nottingham Forest on Sunday joined Fulham and Bournemouth as the latest promoted teams into the Premier League for the 2022/2023 season.

Nottingham Forest beat Huddersfield 1-0 in the promotion playoff final played at Wembley Stadium, and their 1-0 win means that they make a return to the top flight after 23 years.

The promotion is also a remarkable complete turnaround to a season for Forest, who were at the bottom of the Championship table at the end of last September.

They started the season losing six of their first seven games, picking just a point from a possible 21 under former boss Chris Houghton.

However, under their new manager Steve Cooper who took over from Chris Houghton, Forest managed to make their way to their first Wembley appearance in 40 years and also got promoted back into the top flight for the first time in this century.

After getting past Sheffield United and playoff semifinals, Forest faced Sheffield United and got the game’s only goal through an own goal from 19-year-old Huddersfield defender Levi Colwill in the 39th minute of the first half.

However, irrespective of how the winning goal of the game came forth, Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper said that the team deserves to be in the top flight.

“We are a big football club. We know that it’s full of history and tradition. We stand on that, proud. I’ve always said, ‘let’s try to create the next positive chapter,’ and we have managed to do that. For everyone connected to the football club, this is a day to be proud of. They deserve to be back in the Premier League where they belong.” Cooper said.

Nottingham Forest, Fulham, and Bournemouth are the three clubs promoted into the Premier League to replace relegated Norwich City, Watford, and Burnley.
