Former Leeds United footballer Jonathan Woodgate recently claimed that Jadon Sancho’s style does not suit at Manchester United. Woodgate rather feels that the England international could have been a better fit at Liverpool.
The Reds were also interested in Sancho before he joined Manchester United for a massive £73million transfer fee from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund. But ever since he joined Old Trafford not much has gone his way and Woodgate feels that United’s style of play is not suiting the England youngster.
“Things haven’t gone exactly according to plan for Sancho since he signed for Man United this summer, and I put it down to the style of play; it doesn’t suit him. If United replicated Dortmund’s approach, then it would be a different ball game altogether. But Man United don’t play that way; they don’t play the sort of football Sancho is used to.”
The former Tottenham Hotspur defender highlights how Sancho is an extraordinary talent and feels that if the team plays to his strengths then he will come good. “Jadon Sancho is an extraordinary talent; if you play to his strengths, then he’ll come good. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’ll come good again. Put him in the Liverpool team and he’d be a completely different player, I’m sure, ” Woodgate added.
Manchester United started the season nicely but have stumbled in the last few matches collecting just four points in the last six Premier League matches. Things are definitely not alright as there are reports of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer losing the dressing room. There are potential claims of sacking the Norwegian tactician.
But Woodgate feels that the Red Devils just need one more player to gain back all the momentum. He feels an enforcer in the middle could control the tempo and that is something that United needs to get back on track.
“Man United need someone in the middle of the park to control the game; that’s what’s letting them down at the moment. Everything else is in place. They’ve got some exceptional players across the rest of the pitch but they’re just lacking that character in the middle of the park,” Woodgate explained.
