Liverpool has signed left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth in a deal worth £40 million, with the 21-year-old Hungary international signing a five-year contract with the Reds.
Kerkez’s arrival marks the third major signing of the transfer window for Liverpool, following the arrivals of attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz and right-back Jeremie Frimpong, both from Bayer Leverkusen.
Kerkez has been a standout performer for Bournemouth, starting all 38 Premier League games in the 2024-25 season and helping the team achieve a club-record total of 56 points.
The left-back’s impressive form has earned him praise from pundits who are describing him as “one of the best left-back prospects in the Premier League.”
The signing of Kerkez is expected to signal the end of the road for either Andy Robertson or Konstantinos Tsimikas at Anfield. Robertson, who has been a key player for Liverpool since joining from Hull City in 2017, may seek more regular football elsewhere, given Kerkez’s expected starting role.
Kerkez’s arrival is seen as a major boost for Liverpool, with the left-back’s attacking prowess and defensive solidity expected to enhance the team’s performance.
Kerkez’s career has taken a winding path, from AC Milan to AZ Alkmaar and then Bournemouth. Despite being convinced by AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini to join the Serie A side, Kerkez never played a competitive match for Milan and later described asking to leave as “the best decision of my career.”
The 21-year-old left-back has been praised for his confidence and positivity, which has endeared him to teammates and fans alike. His friendship with former teammate Justin Kluivert has also been highlighted, with Kluivert even cutting Kerkez’s hair on one occasion.
With Kerkez’s arrival, Liverpool is expected to have a strong left-back option, and the team will be looking to him to make a significant impact in the upcoming season.
