Manchester City have reached an agreement with AC Milan to sign Netherlands international Tijjani Reijnders in a deal worth €55 million (£46.3 million). The 26-year-old midfielder has agreed personal terms with the Premier League champions and is expected to sign a five-year contract, pending a medical.
City are aiming to finalize the transfer in time for the Club World Cup, which begins on June 14 in the United States. The move comes as the club looks to reinforce their midfield options following a string of injuries, including Mateo Kovacic, who has been ruled out of the tournament after undergoing surgery on his Achilles tendon.
Reijnders joins City following a standout season with Milan, where he scored 15 goals in 54 appearances across all competitions. His efforts earned him the Serie A Midfielder of the Season award, even as Milan finished a disappointing eighth and missed out on European qualification.
The Dutchman, capped 22 times by the Netherlands, offers the versatility and control that Pep Guardiola seeks in midfield. Known for his composure in tight spaces and his ability to carry the ball or break lines with incisive passing, Reijnders can operate in both deep-lying and advanced roles.
His arrival becomes even more significant given uncertainty around Kevin De Bruyne’s future, as the Belgian midfielder is being linked with a move to Serie A champions Napoli. Guardiola will welcome the tactical flexibility Reijnders brings, especially as City look to manage a demanding schedule heading into the new season.
Starting his senior career with PEC Zwolle before rising through the ranks at AZ Alkmaar, Reijnders has steadily built a reputation as a dynamic and intelligent midfielder. His addition to the City squad will provide depth and fresh energy in a key area of the pitch as the club targets more silverware in the coming months.
