Manchester City thrashed Juventus 5-2 in their final group game at the FIFA Club World Cup, securing top spot in Group G.
City’s victory means they will play the team that finishes second in Group H, which could be Real Madrid, Salzburg, and Al-Hilal, while Juventus will face the winners of that group.
The match saw Manchester City dominate from the start, with Jeremy Doku scoring in the 9th minute after a smart assist from Rayan Aït-Nouri.
However, Juventus quickly equalized when Teun Koopmeiners scored in the 11th minute after Ederson’s misdirected pass. City regained the lead just 15 minutes later when Pierre Kalulu scored an own goal while trying to deflect a low cross from his teammate.
In the second half, Erling Haaland put City further ahead in the 52nd minute, and Phil Foden doubled their lead with a goal in the 69th minute.
Savinho added a fifth goal for City in the 75th minute, before Dusan Vlahović scored a consolation goal for Juventus in the 84th minute.
Manchester City’s victory marked their third consecutive win in the group stage, and they are the only team in the tournament to have won all their group games.
The win demonstrates City’s strength and consistency, with Pep Guardiola’s team looking formidable as they progress to the next stage of the competition. City’s next match will determine their opponent, but they are expected to face a tough challenge.
Juventus, despite losing, have secured their place in the knockout stage and will look to bounce back from this defeat.
The Italian side will face the winners of Group H, which has Real Madrid, Salzburg, and Al-Hilal, and they will be looking to cause an upset and progress further in the tournament.
Elsewhere, Arsenal’s transfer activities are starting to blossom as the club is set to sign defender Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia. This is coming less than 24 hours after the club agreed a deal for Brentford’s Christian Norgaard.
