Four Manchester United players, including Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, and Fred, have extended their contracts by a year at Old Trafford.
This is in addition to goalkeeper David de Gea who has also been negotiated as his contract expires at the end of the season.
Had the Red Devils not extended the contracts of four players for an additional year, they would have left for free at the end of the season. Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea, who missed the FIFA World Cup list, would have been free to discuss transfer details with the club starting in January.
However, the goalkeeper will continue at Manchester United and remain the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world with his £375,000 weekly salary.
De Gea has been on that contract since 2019 and will continue on the same pay and terms even though a reduction in pay was raised during negotiations.
De Gea is just the eleventh player to play over 500 games for Manchester United, and he will hope to add to that by starting in Manchester United’s EFL Cup tie against Burnley on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, in the EFL Cup matches played on Wednesday, Wolves left it late to beat League One side Gillingham, in a 2-0 victory. Raul Jimenez scored the Premier League side’s opening goal in the 77th minute from the penalty spot.
The team’s second goal came in the final minutes of the game when Rayan Ait Nouri scored in stoppage time.
Similarly, at the Saint Mary’s Stadium, Southampton had to come from behind to beat Lincoln City with a 2-1 scoreline.
After a second-minute own goal from goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, Che Adams scored in both halves to see the Premier League side through the next round.
Jamy Vardy and Youri Tielemans were on target in Leicester City’s 3-0 victory over MK Dons, while Newcastle pipped Bournemouth 1-0.
