With the game edging towards a tense conclusion, Arteta’s decision to rotate his squad paid off. Saka, who was introduced from the bench, provided the finishing touch in added time. Driving into the box, the England winger squeezed a low shot through the legs of Tzolakis to secure all three points.

Arteta, who made six changes from the dramatic Premier League win over Newcastle United on Sunday, showcased the strength of his revamped squad. After a £250 million summer outlay that brought in eight new faces, the Arsenal boss was able to rest key players such as Saka and Declan Rice for much of the contest while still fielding a competitive side.

The depth was crucial in ensuring Arsenal could cope with Olympiacos’ pressure and maintain their winning run. With two victories from two matches in Europe, Arsenal’s ambitions of advancing deep into the Champions League look well on track.
