Mason Mount has made a name for himself in international football as one of the best midfielders today. The 24-year-old Chelsea star is integral to the team’s success and has won over fans with his technical skills, creative playmaking ability, and impressive goal-scoring record.
Mount began his senior club career with Chelsea and joined Vitesse and Derby County on consecutive loans between 2017 and 2019. He established himself as an integral player for Chelsea in the following years. He won the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup in 2021.
Mount has declared his love for Chelsea on several occasions, and the player has no intention of leaving the club. However, he only has 18 months remaining on his current deal, and things are getting complicated to reach a renewal agreement.
Although the player wants to stay, he demands a salary increase of almost triple what he currently earns. He believes that the increase is fair and represents his quality and his contribution to the club. He currently receives £ 80,000 a week and is looking for his new contract to be £ 240,000 a week.
The club is willing to renew the player, but they will not accept such a significant salary increase.
For his part, boss Potter has urged Chelsea to resolve the Mount situation.
“I think it is always complicated, there is always negotiation,” Potter said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“It’s best I leave it between Mason and the club. He’s been fantastic to work with, an important player for us. I hope it gets resolved quickly.”
