Paris Saint-Germain talisman, Kylian Mbappé, is hoping that the club supporters will be fully behind the team in the next ‘Classique’ against Marseille.
The game is scheduled at the Parc des Princes for Sunday.
Some PSG fans have shown their discontent openly at the club’s Champions League Round of 16 elimination at the hands of Real Madrid last month.
Their reaction was because PSG was in a commanding position for the majority of the tie. Some fans have also criticised the club’s hierarchy over recruitment and the off-field direction of the club.
Mbappe and Neymar bagged hattricks in the club’s 6-1 destruction of Clermont Foot.
Understanding the frustrations of the supporters, the World Cup winner expressed his desire for them to work in tandem with the players in what is the biggest game of the domestic season for both sides.
While noting that it’s always special to play against Marseille, Mbappé, who has scored 20 league goals this season, want the fans to be with the team.
While noting that their disappointment is understandable to us, the striker said it will be beautiful if the fans are with PSG. He added that if they are not, then they will do their job because they are paid to do their best.
As a result of their Champions League exit, PSG fans have shown their displeasure during the past four league games. Parts of the actions taken are a number of banners displayed and many refusing to even celebrate any of the team’s goals, of which there have been 14 scored across those games.
PSG, this have only the league title to win, having been posted in all other cup competitions.
They now have seven games to go until the end of the season.
Despite this, Mbappé knows that there is still expectation on his teammates. The striker said the manner of the performances during the title run-in will go a long way to mending the fractured relationship with the supporters.
