Milan have been handed a double injury blow as new signing Niclas Fullkrug and Rafael Leao are set for another spell on the sidelines.
This German international reportedly broke his toe after just 106 minutes of Serie A action, having become the new arrival of the Serie A January transfer window.
The German international joined Milan on loan with an option to buy from West Ham United on January 2. He has been training with the Rossoneri for the week leading up to his move.
The striker was unveiled on January 2 and made his Serie A debut later on the same evening during a 1-0 win away against Cagliari.
He then came off the bench for a second game in a row during Milan’s 1-1 draw against Genoa in San Siro, and then lined up as a starter for Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Fiorentina.
Latest reports from multiple outlets in Italy say Fullkrug broke his toe towards the end of his full Milan debut against Fiorentina.
What’s unclear is how long the 32-year-old will be unavailable. He is expected to miss Thursday’s Serie A clash away against Como, and almost certainly the game against Lecce on Sunday as well.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the German will be unavailable for several weeks.
Milan could also be without Rafael Leao against Como, while Santiago Gimenez remains out injured for the long term.
As the Portuguese battles fitness, it remains to be seen whether he’ll be available on Thursday.
Should he fail to shake off his injury, Milan might be forced to cope without the attacker as he continues to battle a problem in his right adductor.
Massimiliano Allegri is expected to decide in the next two days whether to bring him to Como for the next league game.
Milan‘s clash is a rescheduled Serie A Round 16 fixture, which Milan could not play at the end of December due to their involvement in the Supercoppa Italiana Final Four.
Leao was on the bench in Sunday’s away game at Fiorentina, and played 70 minutes against Cagliari and 90 against Genoa.
With Fullkrug already out, the option at Allegri’s disposal is Christopher Nkunku.
