It seems Luis Enrique is preparing a formidable competition for Giorgio Donnarumma as Paris Saint-Germain are set to sign Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.
According to Foot Mercato, the French champions are confident in securing a full agreement with the French goalie as negotiations are reportedly in an advanced stage.
A report by RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins said Les Dogues want a transfer fee of around €55m for Chevalier, whilst the current Champions of Europe are confident over a €40m deal for the Frenchman.
Hawkins reported that bonuses will make the difference in the deal and that Chevalier already agreed to sign a five-year deal with PSG.
The capital club have reached a verbal agreement over a deal worth €40m with Lille, and it remains minor details to be sorted before the completion of the deal.
It was also gathered that the latest development won’t force current PSG no.1 Gianluigi Donnarumma to leave the club this summer and that the club are currently considering whether Chevalier and Donnarumma could both compete for a starting role at the club.
Although the situation has left Donnarumma’s future uncertain, the Italian international has been linked to several clubs this summer.
The 26-year-old Italian international, who is the current PSG no.1, is in the final year of his contract at the club. According to reports, Manchester United and Manchester City are both interested in the goalkeeper.
If this move is completed, there could be a change of the guard in the capital.
However, Hawkins suggests that Donnarumma might not leave the club this summer as he enters the final year of his contract. The Italian international is reportedly attached to the PSG project and will not leave unless he is fully convinced by a prospective clubs.
If Donnarumma stays, there will be work in the hands of Enrique as some at PSG are considering whether both goalkeepers could compete for the starting role, with Luis Enrique having the final decision.
