Real Madrid are among the leading clubs interested in signing Manchester United academy forward JJ Gabriel, who has reportedly asked to cancel his registration with the club. 

The 15-year-old submitted a formal request earlier this week, although United have the option to challenge it.

Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Chelsea are also believed to be monitoring Gabriel’s situation. 

However, sources have indicated that Real Madrid are particularly keen to secure his signature and want to move quickly to bring him to Spain.

The Spanish giants are reportedly considering placing Gabriel in Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s reserve team. 

Unlike academy football in England, Castilla compete in Spain’s senior football system and currently operate in the regionalized third tier.

Gabriel, who turns 16 on October 6, is understood to be disappointed with Manchester United over promises about his pathway to the first team. 

United had reportedly hoped to make him their youngest-ever senior player by involving him in Wednesday’s EFL Cup match against Brighton, although the teenager was not selected.

Manchester United have not abandoned hopes of retaining Gabriel but are reportedly uncertain about the precise reasons behind his desire to leave. 

The youngster is also said to be absent from training, while head coach Michael Carrick has urged caution because of the player’s age and stressed the importance of protecting his welfare.

Any immediate move could be complicated by regulations governing the international transfer and registration of young players.

United maintain that Gabriel’s registration runs until the end of the season, but his EU passport could allow him to join a club within the European Union after turning 16, potentially opening the door to a move to Real Madrid.

Gabriel’s situation has attracted comparisons with Arsenal youngster Max Dowman, who made his first-team debut at the age of 15. 

Those close to Gabriel believe his case highlights the growing debate over how major clubs manage and promote highly rated teenage talents.
