Former England defender Rio Ferdinand has identified Arsenal’s ability to win matches in different ways as their biggest strength after their 2-1 victory over Chelsea. 

Ferdinand believes the quality could help Mikel Arteta’s side challenge for a second consecutive Premier League title. 

Arsenal fell behind early against Chelsea after Morgan Rogers opened the scoring, but Kai Havertz and Martin Ødegaard turned the game around to secure all three points. 

Ferdinand praised the Gunners for remaining composed despite not dominating every phase of the match. 

According to Ferdinand, Arsenal no longer depend solely on controlling possession or dictating the tempo to get results. 

He highlighted their ability to stay competitive even when they are not playing at their best, describing their game management as a key sign of their growing experience. 

The former Manchester United defender also pointed to Declan Rice’s late foul on Rogers as an example of Arsenal’s maturity. 

He argued that knowing when to commit a tactical foul and slow the game down demonstrates an understanding of how to manage difficult moments. 

Ferdinand believes Arsenal’s versatility makes them particularly difficult for opponents to prepare against. 

Rather than having one established route to victory, he said Arteta’s team can adapt and find different solutions depending on how a match develops. 

“They can win in many different ways, and this is perhaps their superpower. They don’t have just one way to win the match; they can do it in multiple ways, which I think makes them a very difficult team for opponents to prepare for,” he said.

Arsenal’s next fixture is a UEFA Champions League game on Wednesday away at Napoli before they return to Premier League action against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, with the hopes of continuing their impressive start to the season and wrestling the top spot from Manchester City.
