Salomon Rondon’s brace sends Everton into FA Cup quarter-finals

Frank Lampard saw Everton move into the quarter-finals of The FA Cup after a 2-0 victory over non-league side Boreham Wood on Tuesday.

The Toffees who have enjoyed a horrible run of form in the Premier League recently started the game slowly in a cagey first half as the frontline of Salomon Rondon flanked by Andros Townsend at the right and youngster Anthony Gordon failed to break down the visitor’s defense.

However, a slight tweak in the lineup for the second half by manager Frank Lampard which saw him substitute Twenty-one-year-old Anthony Gordon for Brazilian forward Richarlison paid off almost immediately.

Everton led in the 57th minute through Salomon Rondon before Richarlison scored a goal that was eventually ruled out by the VAR in the 71st minute of the game.

However, Rondon scored with six minutes left to play to seal the victory and move to the Quarterfinals where they will face fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The striker could have had his hat-trick but missed the chance to do that in the stoppage time.

Everton will now turn their attention to the Premier League where they sit in 17th position with 22 points from 24 matches. Their next fixture is a clash with Tottenham in the Premier League and they will also play Wolves and Newcastle United before the FA Cup clash with Palace.

In other quarter-finals fixtures made on Thursday evening, Liverpool will play the winner of the tie between Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield while Chelsea will play Middlesbrough who knocked out Manchester United while Manchester City will play Southampton at the Saint Mary’s Stadium.

FA Cup quarter-final draws:

Crystal Palace v Everton or Boreham Wood

Middlesbrough v Chelsea

Nottingham Forest or Huddersfield v Liverpool

Southampton v Manchester City.
