Schmeichel celebrates vital career milestone following Celtic win

Kasper Schmeichel announced that he had reached a significant milestone the previous weekend, making his 900th professional appearance during Celtic’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Motherwell.

He shared that on Sunday, he had passed this remarkable landmark, securing three crucial points in stoppage time with Daizen Maeda’s late header.

He noted that, although it wasn’t his most commanding performance in a Celtic jersey, the significance of the moment was not lost on him, and he expressed his feelings in a heartfelt post to supporters the following day.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, the veteran shot stopper revealed he had reached 900 professional matches for club and country, a milestone he could only have dreamed of in the past.

He also noted that it was a remarkable way to achieve it with an injury-time winner. He expressed gratitude for every step, challenge, and cheer, adding that he had reached 900 matches and was still counting.

Schmeichel also added that he had joined Celtic the previous summer after leaving Anderlecht, reflecting on a distinguished career that included winning the Premier League and FA Cup with Leicester City, as well as earning over 90 caps for Denmark.

Acknowledging his time in Glasgow, the goalkeeper had faced scrutiny due to some inconsistent performances recently, including a challenging match against Braga in European competition.

However, he emphasized that reaching 900 professional games was a testament to his longevity, resilience, and professionalism in the sport.

Schmeichel expressed hope that this milestone would serve as a boost for him as Celtic’s number one goalkeeper, aiming to regain his top form ahead of a critical series of domestic fixtures.

He described the achievement as another chapter in a career filled with high-pressure moments, underscoring that his journey was far from over.

He conveyed gratitude for every step, challenge, and cheer from supporters, noting that he had reached 900 matches and was still counting, eager to continue adding to his legacy.
