On Sunday, AS Roma handed Inter their third consecutive defeat across all competitions with a 1-0 goal win at the San Siro. 

This has given Napoli the chance to become the new leader of the Serie A if they at least draw in their clash against Torino with just four games remaining from the end of the season.

This bleak display raises further concerns ahead of their next match, a  Champions League semi-final clash with Barcelona, which just won the Copa Del Rey.

Going into this match, the Nerazzurri had lost at Bologna, losing their position as the leaders to Napoli, then crashed out of the Coppa Italia semi-final with a 3-0 defeat to Milan on Wednesday. 

They would have wished for another opponent with their current run than the Giallorossi, who were on a 17-match unbeaten Serie A run.

Inter thought they had scored when Davide Frattesi scored against his former club after six minutes. The goal was chalked off because Carlos Augusto was offside before pulling back the assist.

Inter suffered an injury blow when Benjamin Pavard landed awkwardly on his ankle, and he hobbled off in the opening 14 minutes, making way for Yann Bisseck.

Roma opened the goals account a few minutes later after Mile Svilar had rushed out to clear from Hakan Calhanoglu.

Matias Soulé dribbled down the right and pulled back to the edge of the box to Manu Kone, who blasted his effort off target. With the same move, this time around, Lorenzo Pellegrini’s attempt was deflected into the Argentine’s path, who scored with an angled drive. 

Roma almost made it two, but Carlos Augusto blocked the shot, which prevented Shomurodov from tapping in the Angelino roll across the back post.

Marko Arnautovic failed to make contact with an attempted acrobatic scissor-kick volley from  Matteo Darmian’s cross, while Tommaso Baldanzi called Yann Sommer to action with a save and Soulé curled off target.

Nicolò Barella flashed his finish across the face of the goal from seven yards from the Lautaro Martinez lay-off,  

Roma had two great opportunities when Niccolò Pisilli shinned the finish from 12 yards, and Dovbyk’s poor touch on the Angelino counter-attack gave Francesco Acerbi the chance to make a decisive block.
