Sevilla Sporting Director Monchi claims that they have not received any offers from Chelsea for Jules Kounde

Chelsea were in the transfer market for a new centre back and they were very interested in Sevilla centre back Jules Kounde. But Sevilla sporting director, Monchi has revealed that they have not received any offer from the Premier League outfit for the French defender.

There were multiple reports suggesting that Chelsea were looking to rope in Jules Kounde who has emerged as a top centre back in Europe in the last couple of years at Sevilla.  Thomas Tuchel wants to improve his defence and add more solidity and Kounde can be a perfect player suiting to his attacking system.

But Monchi has made claims that Sevilla has received no official bids till now for the Frenchman. Speaking about Kounde’s links with Chelsea, Monchi told the club’s official media channel, “Many clubs have asked for Kounde. There’s interest, but no official bid on the table.

“To this day there has been no specific offer for him. I don’t know what’s going to happen. If an important bid arrives, we’ll sell, as this is our policy to improve the team.”

When asked whether the France international will stay at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan or not, Monchi added, “The Sevilla player wants to know what will happen.

“I don’t know. But if there is no offer we believe we can reinvest, he will continue with us. His physical condition is very good.”

There were several talks linking Kounde to Chelsea with Kurt Zouma also joining Sevilla in a player plus cash deal. But the La Liga outfit has clearly mentioned that they will only entertain straight up cash deals.

But Chelsea are still adamant to ship out Kurt Zouma to facilitate the Kounde deal. They are set to loan Trevoh Chalobah to Valencia to make more room for the Frenchman.

Kounde can be a great addition to the Blues as they can pair him up with Thiago Silva. Kounde’s physicality and speed and Silva’s game reading would have complimented each other.  They also have Andreas Christensen who had a great Euros 2020 with Denmark reaching the semifinals.

Kounde could have been a great signing for Thomas Tuchel but with Sevilla holding out a £68million asking fee, it will be interesting to see if Chelsea agrees to splash out that much money on the French defender.
