Tite would have booed Brazil players off

Brazil manager Tite says he would have booed his team off had he been a fan after their scoreless draw with Venezuela in the Copa America.

The tournament hosts failed to catch fire despite having three goals ruled out, two by VAR, enduring jeers from the home crowd at both half-time and full-time in Salvador.

Brazil made hard work of beating Bolivia in their opener but remain top of Group A with four points. Referee Julio Bascunan ruled out a first-half Roberto Firmino strike as Brazil had 75 per cent possession but mustered just a solitary shot on target.

Gabriel Jesus had an effort chalked off in the second half and Brazil’s frustration was complete when Philippe Coutinho’s late strike was disallowed after VAR showed a foul in the build-up.

“VAR was correct. I have absolutely nothing to demand. We got justice,” Tite said.

“They made the right call with [the VAR] goals.” The coach went on to suggest he agreed with the Brazil supporters that loudly voiced their disapproval of the performance, one he admits did not come up to standard.

“We have to understand the supporters, they want to see goals and if I had been in the crowd I also would have wanted to boo us,” he added.

Venezuela have two points from two games and could earn qualification if they beat Bolivia in their final game and Brazil take care of Peru, who picked up a 3-1 over the Bolivians on Tuesday.

“We played an almost perfect game against a team of brilliant individuals,” said Venezuela boss Rafael Dudamel. “Long live VAR. “Today is very important, but this result will mean nothing if we don’t qualify from the group.”

Venezuela are 1.50 to win their final game, with Bolivia 7.00 and the draw priced at 4.50.
