Wolves Defeat Everton 2-1 to Move to No. 7 Spot in Premier League Standings

A pair of first half goals from Max Kilman (28′) and Raul Jiménez (32′) were the difference as Wolverhampton moved into the No. 7 spot of the PL table following Monday’s 2-1 win over Everton. Alex Iwobi found the back of the net for Everton in the 66th minute.

Jimenez scored at Molineux for the first time since October 2020. Kilman got his first-ever goal for Wolves.

“It feels really really good to get back on the scoresheet at home,” Jiménez said immediately after the match. “It feels really really good to be back on the scoresheet at home. We suffered more in the second half, and we maintain the lead. We worked hard, that’s what the coach tells us to do. We have a lot of confidence in each other. That makes it look easier than it was. We are most of us the same players from the last season, we know we can play. We know that the players will try their best.”

It was his 50th goal for the club.

Wolves have now picked up 13 points from a possible 15 in their last five Premier League matches.

“I saw the goalkeeper having doubts of going to the ball or not and I also saw the defender having doubts so I thought this is mine,” he said. “We have to dream big.”

Jiménez has now scored more goals vs Everton than any other English club in his career; he has scored in every game he’s played against them.

“We have a lot of confidence in each other so that’s what makes the game look easier than it was,” Jiménez added.

Jiménez has scored more Premier League goals for Wolves than any other player at Molineux (19).

Wolves won the battle of possession 62-38, but Everton finished with five shots on target vs 4 for Wolves.

Wolves were nothing short of dominant in the first 45 minutes as Everton didn’t even manage a shot on target in the first half.

“I think it’s a question of tactics,” Everton manager Rafael Benitez said of the disparity in competitive play between the first and second halves. “Maybe we are missing the players that can make a difference.”

Since losing their first three Premier League matches under Bruno Lage, Wolves have taken 13 points from their six matches (4 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw). Since September 1, only Chelsea (5) have more Premier League wins than Wolves (4).

“It’s not about our result it’s about our performance,” Lage said afterwards. “That’s why I’m very happy with the work of everyone.”

Everton, now in the No. 10 spot, will match up with Tottenham next weekend (7 November). Wolves get set for a fixture vs Crystal Palace on Saturday (6 November).
