Nunes Defends Title At UFC 250

On Saturday, 6 June, we got to witness the second UFC fight in two straight weeks at its facility in Las Vegas.

The main fight for UFC 250 was from two tough fighters in the UFC women’s division, Amanda Nunes and Felicia Spencer, as the former defended her Featherweight title in 5 rounds, putting in enough effort to stun her opponent.

From the very first round, Nunes made it clear that she was there to win and have fun while doing it. She dominated the round, throwing right jabs, to weaken her opponent.

Spencer fought hard to maintain her balance and remained standing after all the hits, to the surprise of many. Every resistance from Spencer was met with greater force from Nunes, who resorted to using her elbows. This she did till the end of the first round.

The second round was equally as fierce as Nunes was determined to make the most of her time. Spencer could do very little to keep Nunes at bay. Instead, Nunes pursued her around the ring, throwing punches here and there, still wearing that smile on her face.

By the third round, all seemed in Nunes favour. Spencer was starting to get weak from all the beating and there was no hope that she could turn things anymore in her favour again. This continued into the fourth round as Nunes was just going after Spencer.

Hoping for a knockout victory, Nunes delivered a round of rapid punches on Spencer, but her opponent still, somehow, managed to keep standing. Nunes then went for the neck, attempting to choke Spencer, but Spencer remained tough till the end of the round. By that time, she was bleeding from the face already.

The fifth round was when things got bad for Spencer. Nunes was determined to finish what she had started, to defend her second title in another division. All her efforts to end the match by KO had been foiled by Spencer’s resilience.

For that, she had to make Spencer pay for taking the fight up to the fifth round. Spencer could do nothing to stop Nunes now as she was dealing with another cut to the face. The round ended and Nunes was declared the winner by the judges’ decision. The scores were 50-44, 50-44, and 50-45.

Nunes has always performed well in defending her title. In the Bantamweight division, she has succeeded in defending her title a massive 5 times. Saturday’s fight was also her 11th straight win and she also made the record of the first fighter to defend two titles in two divisions.

After the fight, she announced that she would be taking a break for the rest of the year as she expected her first child, who is three months due.
