Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Nikola Jokic can all claim to be the best player in the NBA today but the Greek Freak is inspired by James’ physical attributes.
“It’s interesting to me how LeBron is still one of the best shapes in his life and being the best player in the world and still being in year 18,” Antetokounmpo told MARCA Basket. “Like, that’s really interesting. I want to know how he does that. He’s been consistent for 18 years. He’s always there. He’s always showing up. That’s unbelievable.”
The Greek Freak also had major praise for James’ work ethic and how determined he is to take elite care of his body. The two-time NBA MVP went as far as to say that he doesn’t see himself spending much money on his physical preparation:
“He obviously gets credit, but I think we’ve got to give him more credit. Doing it for 18 years guys, that’s hard. And hopefully, hopefully I can be there. Hopefully I can do this for 18 years, 20 years. That’s the goal,” Antetokounmpo added.
“You gotta spend 1.5 million dollars on your body? I don’t know if I can do that. I’m too cheap for that. No, I’m joking. It’s crazy to me, man. He’s been so consistent. It’s fun to watch. It’s definitely fun to watch.”
Father Time is undefeated and LeBron James isn’t an exception to this rule, as he’s been hurt more often in recent seasons. That said, he clearly still plays at a high level every year. James averaged 30.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists in 37.2 minutes over 56 games last season.
We have to enjoy his greatness while it lasts though, he will turn 38 years old in December and as mentioned above, Father Time catches up with anyone in the end.
