Arsenal star denies links to Real Madrid

Martin Zubimendi has played down speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid, insisting the Spanish giants already have “more than enough players” despite their turbulent season.

The Arsenal midfielder has been touted as a potential solution for Los Blancos following their struggles in La Liga and Europe, but the Spain international was quick to dismiss the idea.

Zubimendi joined Arsenal last summer from Real Sociedad in a deal worth around £60 million, arriving as part of a major recruitment drive by Mikel Arteta.

The midfielder has settled quickly in north London, becoming a key figure in a side pushing on multiple fronts during the 2025-26 campaign.

The 26-year-old has featured 33 times in all competitions this season, scoring five goals and providing three assists as Arsenal surged to the top of the Premier League table.

The Gunners also topped their Champions League group, reached the Carabao Cup final after beating Chelsea, and remain alive in the FA Cup.

With Real Madrid enduring a difficult campaign that has already seen a managerial change and early exits from domestic competitions, Zubimendi was asked whether he could be the player they are missing.

Speaking, he replied bluntly: “I don’t think so. Real Madrid has more than enough players to do well, so no.”

Zubimendi also reflected on Arsenal’s silverware ambitions, stressing that the decisive phase of the season is still ahead. “We’ve taken the first step, but there are three very important months ahead. The standings are great, but this is about winning it in the end.”

He added that while he has adapted well, the Premier League’s intensity has stood out, calling it “very demanding” with constant pressure and a high overall level.

Arteta has repeatedly praised Zubimendi’s influence, hailing his composure, versatility, and impact in the final third after his standout display against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Arsenal now turn their attention back to the league, hosting Sunderland on Saturday as they continue their push for trophies on all four fronts.
