Bayern Munich hammer Auckland City in Club World Cup route

Bayern Munich destroyed Auckland City 10-0 in their FIFA Club World Cup opener, showcasing a ruthless display of dominance.

Kingsley Coman opened the scoring after five minutes, heading in a Joshua Kimmich corner after Jonathan Tah’s setup.

By the 12th minute, Coman assisted Sacha Boey’s volleyed finish to double the lead. Before the 20th minute, Michael Olise capitalized on a scuffed Harry Kane effort to make it 3-0, and Coman soon added his second, firing through a defender’s legs for 4-0.

The gap between the teams was glaring. Auckland’s defense, led by vice-captain Adam Mitchell, struggled to contain Bayern’s relentless attack.

A bizarre moment saw Boey volley a Bayern corner toward his own goal, only for Manuel Neuer to collect it unchallenged in Auckland’s half, highlighting the minnows’ disarray.

Thomas Müller made it 5-0 before halftime, volleying in Olise’s cross, and Olise himself curled in a stunning strike just before the break, leaving the score at 6-0.

Auckland, representing amateur footballers globally as per goalkeeper Michael Tracey’s pre-tournament comments, looked helpless against Bayern’s precision.

The second half brought no respite. Substitute Jamal Musiala stole the show, scoring a whipped strike, converting a penalty he won, and adding a third after intercepting Tracey’s errant pass. Müller, nearing retirement, sealed the 10-0 rout with his second goal in the closing stages.

Despite the scoreline, Harry Kane surprisingly failed to score. Bayern’s dominance was expected, but the sheer scale of the victory underscored the chasm between the European giants and the Kiwi underdogs.

Auckland’s effort to form a defensive block proved futile as Bayern carved through them with ease, delivering a performance that was both clinical and merciless.
