Del Piero: Return of Lukaku and Pogba is great for Serie A

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero is expecting top performance from both Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba, who are likely to return to the Italian Serie A.

Del Piero, who pointed out that their impending returns is great for Italian football, expects the duo to resettle into their respective teams early enough.

Lukaku had, in an interview with Skye Sport, said he would love to return to Inter after he led them to their first Scudetto in a decade.

Roma became the first Serie A team to win a European title since Inter’s Treble victory in 2010. Since that time, only Juventus have reached a Champions League final. The Turin giant even got to the final twice but lost during that time. The record shows that only one Italian team has reached the semifinal since 2017.

Speaking about the difference between the Premier League and Serie A, the Juve legend noted that there is an indicative difference between the two leagues.

Del Piero, who is also an ESPN pundit, pointed out that the Premier League is the best football that can see in terms of the number of teams that can perform at a high level but not in the Champions League or Europa League.

Speaking further, the former Italy international noted that it’s a different kind of sport in some moments as players run more in the Premier League. This, he said, requires more physicality.

Admitting that the struggling of teams in the Italian Serie A also affected the national team that has failed to qualify for Qatar 2022, he said last season showed a little bit more.

While noting that Roma’s win [in the Europa Conference League] is good hope for the future in the Europa competitions, he expects both to complete their signing.

He added that the addition of both players to the league could be a great move also for Italian football to become stronger again and have a voice in the Champions League especially.
