Everton are closing in on a deal to sign Fulham’s Dutch right-back Kenny Tete, as manager David Moyes continues reshaping his squad ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The 29-year-old defender, who has 14 caps for the Netherlands, is expected to join the Toffees on a free transfer once his contract with Fulham expires at the end of June. Talks over a three-year contract are said to be at an advanced stage, with Everton making Tete their top target for the right-back position.
Moyes has identified strengthening the right side of defense as a key summer priority. Ashley Young, 39, was not offered a new contract after the conclusion of last season, while veteran club captain Seamus Coleman faces an uncertain future due to age and fitness concerns. In response, Moyes has moved quickly to find a long-term solution.
Tete, who previously played for Ajax and Lyon, brings nearly five years of Premier League experience from his time at Fulham. Despite the Cottagers’ hopes of retaining him, the defender appears set for a fresh challenge at Goodison Park.
Since taking over in January, Moyes has experimented with different options at right-back. Jake O’Brien, typically a central defender, stepped in and delivered consistent performances under the new regime, having been largely overlooked by former manager Sean Dyche. Scotland international Nathan Patterson also filled in at times, but Moyes has made clear his preference for a specialist with proven top-flight credentials.
The Everton boss had also been linked with moves for Manchester City’s Kyle Walker, Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters, and Vladimir Coufal—who he previously managed at West Ham United. However, Tete’s availability on a free and his Premier League experience appear to have made him the standout choice.
If completed, Tete’s signing would mark a significant early move in Moyes’ efforts to bolster the squad’s defensive resilience. His arrival would add depth, experience, and a composed presence to Everton’s backline, offering a reliable option for a team aiming to stabilize after a turbulent few seasons.
With the deal nearing completion, fans can expect an official announcement in the coming days as Everton prepare to kick off their pre-season preparations with a new face in the dressing room.
