The Houston Rockets are acquiring 15-time All-Star forward Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns, according to an ESPN report on Sunday. The deal, a bold statement of intent by the Rockets, sends guard Jalen Green, forward Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-round picks to Phoenix in exchange for the veteran superstar.
Durant, who turns 37 in September, remains one of the league’s most prolific scorers. He played 62 games for the Suns in the 2024–25 season, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game, while hitting an impressive 43.0 percent from beyond the arc. Despite his age, Durant’s output remains close to his career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.1 blocks.
The trade positions Houston as a serious contender in the Western Conference. After years of rebuilding, the Rockets are betting big on Durant’s championship pedigree and star power to lead a young core into playoff relevance. With one year remaining on his current contract, a $54.7 million salary in 2025–26, Durant also has the option to sign a two-year, $122 million extension once the new league year begins on July 6.
This is the latest chapter in Durant’s storied career, which has spanned stints with the Seattle SuperSonics/Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets, and most recently, the Suns. He’s a six-time All-NBA first team honoree and one of the most decorated scorers in NBA history.
For Phoenix, the deal signals a shift toward younger talent and future flexibility. In Jalen Green, they acquire a high-upside guard capable of evolving into a franchise cornerstone. Dillon Brooks brings defensive grit and playoff experience, while the draft picks add valuable assets for long-term planning.
The move is both high-risk and high-reward for Houston, as it sacrifices key young players and draft capital for a veteran star nearing the twilight of his career. Yet, with Durant still performing at an elite level, the Rockets are clearly all-in on chasing success now.
