The Spanish top flight resumes after Real Madrid lifted last season’s trophy in May, becoming the champions with some games left to play ahead of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, who were less than impressive.
The Los Blancos are gunning for a 36th La Liga title for Real Madrid, and they stand as contenders this season because they are one of the strongest teams in Europe currently after winning the La Liga and UEFA Champions League double.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side also lifted the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday after beating German side Eintracht Frankfurt who won the UEFA Europa League 2-0 in Helsinki, Finland.
On the night, David Alaba and Karim Benzema scored the winning goals, but the team will also have Vinicius Junior, who scored the winner in the UEFA Champions League final in Paris in May.
The Brazilian and Karim Benzema look set to lead the line for Los Blancos after the french striker moved into the second position as Real Madrid’s second highest goal scorer in history behind just Cristiano Ronaldo.
The capital club side made signings including Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea and Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco this summer.
Real Madrid rivals Barcelona are finding it difficult to register the players that they have signed this summer. The Catalonians may have to release five of them if they can’t register them before Saturday when they play Rayo Vallecano.
The players are Andreas Christensen and Frank Kessie, who both joined on a free transfer, Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, Raphinha from Leeds United, and Jules Kounde from Sevilla.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid will face Almeria while Atletico Madrid play Getafe. Valladolid will welcome Villarreal, Real Betis play Elche, Atletico Bilbao v Mallorca, Valencia play Girona and Cadiz facing Real Sociedad in the opening fixtures.
