The Germans clinched a 3-1 win against Northern Ireland on Sunday, marking their first victory in the World Cup qualifying campaign.
The match saw a strong second-half performance, with Florian Wirtz scoring a stunning free-kick and Nadiem Amiri adding another goal within three minutes to seal the result.
Earlier, Serge Gnabry’s seventh-minute opener was equalized by Isaac Price, but Germany regained control after the break.
The win was a crucial rebound for Germany following a 2-0 loss to Slovakia on Thursday, their first-ever defeat in a World Cup qualifying opener.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Julian Nagelsmann noted that his team started well and deserved the lead, despite Northern Ireland’s equalizer being their only shot on goal.
He described the equalizer as a brilliant strike but emphasized that Germany’s increasing dominance on the pitch led to a well-earned victory.
Despite the win, Germany remains third in Group A, level on points with Northern Ireland. The two sides will face off again next month in Belfast at Clearer Twist National Stadium.
Nagelsmann revealed he anticipates a tougher challenge, stating that playing away from home will be difficult due to the passionate Northern Irish fans, who were vocal even during the away match.
Germany’s next fixtures include a match against winless Luxembourg before traveling to face Northern Ireland.
The upcoming clash in Belfast is expected to be intense, with the German tactician acknowledging the significant boost Northern Ireland’s fans will provide.
The victory on Sunday has boosted Germany’s momentum, but the road to World Cup qualification remains competitive as they prepare for critical matches in October.
This performance also showcased Germany’s resilience and attacking prowess, with Wirtz and Amiri proving pivotal off the bench.
As the team looks ahead, Nagelsmann will aim to build on this result to strengthen their position in Group A and secure a spot in the World Cup.
