Napoli’s Title Charge Delayed After Goalless Draw at Parma Sets Up Final Day Showdown

Napoli’s bid to clinch the Serie A title was put on hold Sunday after a frustrating 0-0 draw against Parma, forcing the title race to go down to the wire on the final day of the season.

Despite controlling much of the match and creating several key chances, Napoli couldn’t find the breakthrough they needed. Their fate was momentarily swayed by events elsewhere, as Inter Milan also dropped points in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Lazio. Napoli now holds a narrow one-point lead over their closest rivals, with everything to play for next weekend.

The best opportunity of the first half fell to Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, whose powerful volley in the 32nd minute rattled the post, drawing gasps from the traveling supporters. In the second half, Matteo Politano’s attempted cross nearly looped in but grazed the top of the crossbar, narrowly missing the net.

Scott McTominay came close from a set-piece, but Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki pulled off a superb save to keep the scores level. Parma, playing without pressure, stood firm against a determined Napoli side, and their defensive resilience paid off.

Tension reached a boiling point in the dying moments. As word came through in the 90th minute that Lazio had equalised against Inter, Napoli was suddenly back in pole position. The atmosphere turned electric as Napoli surged forward in search of a late winner.

However, the closing stages descended into chaos when Napoli manager Antonio Conte and Parma coach Cristian Chivu were both shown red cards following a fiery confrontation on the touchline. The dismissal means Conte will be forced to watch the final match from the stands — a major blow ahead of the season’s decisive clash.

The most controversial moment came deep into stoppage time. David Neres was brought down in the box by Parma’s Mathias Fjortoft Lovik, prompting the referee to point to the spot. But after a lengthy VAR review, the decision was dramatically overturned, snatching away what could have been a title-winning moment.

With Napoli set to host Cagliari and Inter traveling to high-flying Como next Sunday, the Scudetto will be decided in a nail-biting finale. Should both teams finish level on points, a rare title playoff will be required to crown the Serie A champion.

Napoli’s title dream remains alive, but the wait continues.
