‘We deserved to win’ – Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel after their 1-1 draw against Leicester City

Chelsea in their recent Premier League encounter bagged a 1-1 draw against Leicester City as they have sealed the third position in the league standings. Despite the draw against the Foxes, the Blues boss Thomas Tuchel was not much worried as he felt that his men played better than what the results suggested.

Leicester City opened the scoring in the 6th minute as James Maddison struck first blood. However, the Blues did not trail for long as Marcus Alonso scored the equaliser in the 34th minute to bring the Blues back in the game.

Chelsea had some great opportunities in the game to wrap it all up, especially when Christian Pulisic had the goal gaping in the second half but the American fluffed his opportunity wide. Despite everything that had happened in the game, Tuchel was clear with his thoughts as he felt that this was a match they deserve to win but simply could not because of their wasteful nature.

After the match, Thomas Tuchel shared, “We were the better team and deserved to win. We didn’t allow any chances and got punished by a shot from outside the box. We created enough to win, but didn’t allow transition and chances for Leicester. So I am fine with the performance.”

The German tactician again reiterated the fact of not taking the chances. “It’s a bit of a broken record: we did not take what we deserve,” Tuchel added.

Chelsea have now confirmed the third place in the English Premier League standings and will host relegated team Watford FC on the last matchday. Tuchel will look to win the last match of the season to finish the season on a high.

Thomas Tuchel throughout the season has rued missed opportunities in front of the goal. It has been the case for the Blues for some time now and that ultimately resulted in them getting knocked out of the Champions League quarter finals against Real Madrid. The Blues dominated Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabeu but they lacked the firepower up front to kill the game and ultimately lost the tie.

Chelsea did invest in Romelu Lukaku this summer from Inter Milan but the Belgian forward has struggled to fire goals in for the Blues. He has scored eight goals in 26 appearances failing to justify his huge price tag.
