Wilder Planning On Making A Comeback

Former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder has said that he is considering making a comeback to the sport, although his mind has not been made up yet.

Wilder has not fought since he lost to Tyson Fury last October at the trilogy fight. The fight marked his second professional loss, and it was his last attempt to win back the WBC title he lost to Fury a year earlier.

Speaking recently at an interview, the American said: “I’m definitely considering coming back. This is something that we’re trying to figure out and get things situated. I feel [it could be] a re-boost for my career.” The former champion made it clear that he was not returning cause of the money, stating, “It’s not about the financial things. I never have to return to boxing ever again in my life. I’ve set my life up.”

Wilder went on further to say that he has spent the time outside of boxing to focus on other things, like discovering new hobbies and attending to his business ventures.
In his words, “at this point in time, I’m jumping into other passions that I wanted to do in my life, and I’m enjoying my life so much. It’s just amazing. I take pride in being a king and doing king things.”

Before fighting Fury for the first time, Wilder was undefeated, and his first fight with the Gypsy King gave him his first professional draw. His last win was in 2019, when he defeated Ludo Ortiz by knockout in the seventh round. In 2020 and 2021, Wilder lost to Fury in their two fights, putting dents in his professional career record (42-2-1).

It does not seem likely that he would return to the ring this year, but Wilder, who turns 37 this year, does not have too much time on his side, and any decision he takes would have to be made soon.
