British tennis prodigy Emma Raducanu who created history by winning the US Open straight from qualifying recently opened up on her interests and hobbies. The 19-year-old tennis star in her interview with Sky Sports admitted that she is a big fan of motorsports. It does not stop there as Raducanu is interested in getting a motorbike license after securing her license to drive a car.
“I’m a big adrenaline junkie,” she said. “I have my driver’s licence but I’m a big motorsports fan so maybe get my motorbike licence – something speedy and fun.”
Her quick rise to fame saw a lot of media hyper around the tennis star. Raducanu was covered by all big organisations post her US Open triumph. But the British star went through a rough patch right after the glorious Grand Slam triumph which a lot of people felt was due to her constant off court distraction.
However, the 19-year-old who is born in Canada and has a Romanian connection shared that she only now cares about the opinions of her close circle. She only pays attention to the things that she like, allowing nothing else to influence his decisions.
“To me the things that matter are the expectations of myself and what I want to achieve and what I want to get out of the day,” she said. “It’s just about improving and seeing yourself get better and I don’t take anyone else’s opinions into account except for my close circle.”
The teenage sensation also spoke about her US Open journey highlighting that she was mainly looking to get through the qualifications. “I arrived in New York just hoping to get through qualifying maybe. I was pretty tired,” she said. “I just had the most amazing time and I think the key to that was I just focused on the day.”
Once the youngster got the hang of winning players, she understood that she could just keep going. That’s what she did until she defeated Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in the finals to complete the historic feat.
“The time flew by, It went so fast by the end of it I was like, ‘I don’t wanna leave yet, I wanna stay’, and it was getting to the latter stages of the tournament and I was thinking, ‘but, what if? You’re here, so why not?’. But no one made a big deal of it,” Emma Raducanu concluded.
