Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka looking forward to an emotional Olympics debut at Tokyo

The current World No. 2 Naomi Osaka has recently revealed her emotion in representing Japan on a global Stage. She spoke about her chances of winning the Gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

The 4-time Grand Slam winner has already revealed that she won’t take any part in this year’s Wimbledon due to personal reasons. But she also said that she would travel to her country to prepare for the Summer Games.

The tournament will be held on hard courts which directly favours Naomi who has won all her Grand Slams on hardcourts. It definitely gives her the edge over others.

Speaking to Business Insider Osaka shared how winning the Gold medal for her country would mean a lot to her. It will be a special feeling for her to represent Japan and be the flagbearer of tennis among the youth of this country.

“It would honestly mean the world to me to bring home a gold in Japan,” Naomi Osaka said. “I think it would take some time to fully sink in, but to be able to win a gold on my country’s soil, knowing the youngest generation is watching – it makes me emotional to know I have the opportunity to make an entire generation inspired and an entire country proud.”

Osaka considers the Olympics as the most prestigious sports event in the world. Hence she is very excited to make a new start with the Tokyo Olympics.

“I have never competed in an Olympic Games before, but I can say, as an athlete, I’m excited to be competing in the most prestigious athletic event in the world,” Osaka said.

While she is happy that Japan is hosting the Olympics, she is also very sure that many players will be under pressure in Tokyo. “Like most competitors, I’ve been waiting for this opportunity my entire life,” Osaka said.

“And the fact that they are being held in my birthplace of Japan, I just feel like I can’t stop smiling about it.”

“You have to mentally prepare for these large-scale moments,” she added. “And there are a lot of pressures associated with the Olympics because your country is looking up to you.”
