Former NBA Champion Kendrick Perkins feels the extra depth on the Suns’ roster make them the favourites to win the Championship

The Phoenix Suns did take everyone in the NBA by surprise as they reached the first final since 1993. Last season despite showing a lot of heart the Suns failed to qualify for the playoffs in Orlando. This season with Chris Paul’s arrival the dynamics of the team has changed.

Monty Williams’ men finished second in the Western Conference and then knocked out the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round. Then followed it with a sweep against the Denver Nuggets led by MVP Nikola Jokic. Lastly, the toughest fight they had was against the Los Angeles Clippers. They defeated them in six games and now will face the Milwaukee Bucks in the finals.

The Suns’ backcourt of Paul and Devin Booker have been exceptional with their understanding and combination. The duo has shown great aggression and it is due to their form the Suns will start as favourites in the finals.

Recently in an episode of “The Jump’, former NBA Champion and analyst Kendrick Perkins also tagged the Suns as favourites to win the NBA Championship.

“This is how much I believe in the Phoenix Suns. I wish you would have told me before we got on the show that you went to Vegas you know yesterday and half of the time because I would have told you to bet my house on it. That’s how much faith I have in the Phoenix Suns right now.”

Apart from the Paul Booker duo, the Suns have shown great depth among their ranks. The likes of Torrey Craig, Cam Johnson, Cam Payne, Dario Saric, etc have been exceptional. They have played crucial roles at different parts of the season helping the team maintain their domination. Perkins feels that the depth that the Suns have in their roster makes them the favourites.

“Yeah, for the simple fact that they are not lacking at anything. When you look at their depth, they have you know two awesome backcourts in Devin Booker and Chris Paul. They have shooting, they have a defensive identity, they have a young star in DeAndre Ayton that anchors the defense and who’s everything you want in a center position. And then when you look at their bench Cameron Payne, Cam Johnson, Saric. They have a lot of depth,” he added.

While the star duo and the supporting cast has been on song, young players like DeAndre Ayton and Mikal Bridges have shown tremendous growth to guide the team to glory.
