The Premier League is set for a dramatic final day as five teams compete for the remaining three Champions League spots.
With Liverpool and Arsenal already confirmed for next season’s competition, the remaining places will be decided among Newcastle, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Manchester City, and Nottingham Forest. Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, Chelsea, and Villa are all level on 66 points, while City and Forest trail by just one point, setting up a tense conclusion to the campaign.
Manchester City hold a crucial advantage with a game in hand against Bournemouth on Tuesday. A win there would give them the edge going into the final day when they face Fulham.
Newcastle, currently fifth, can seal qualification with a home victory over Everton. Chelsea also control their fate but must overcome a motivated Nottingham Forest side who revived their chances with a 2-1 win over West Ham on Sunday.
Aston Villa face a tough test against Manchester United at Old Trafford and will need to win while hoping other results go their way. Forest, meanwhile, must beat Chelsea and hope for slip-ups from those above. With only three spots available, the final day promises high drama with Champions League football and European revenue on the line.
In other European qualification scenarios, Crystal Palace have already secured a Europa League spot by winning the FA Cup. Newcastle, as Carabao Cup winners, are at least assured of Conference League football. The sixth-placed team will also play in the Europa League, while the seventh could join them depending on Chelsea’s performance in the Conference League final against Real Betis on 28 May.
If Chelsea win that final and finish sixth or seventh, England could have three Europa League representatives and no team in the Conference League.
Brentford, Brighton, Fulham, and Bournemouth all remain in contention for eighth place, which could carry European qualification under certain conditions. As it stands, every match across the final week carries significant weight in shaping the Premier League’s European contingent.
