Liverpool legend Ian Rush has suggested that he sees no place for French star midfielder Paul Pogba at Old Trafford. Rush feels that Pogba may head towards Real Madrid this summer with his current contract with United expiring.
Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain have been long term admirers of the French international and will hopefully push for his signature at the end of the current season. However Rush believes that Pogba’s move to the La Liga makes more sense to him rather than moving to Ligue 1.
Speaking on the matter, the Liverpool legend said, “It wouldn’t surprise me if one or two players left Manchester United in the summer. Paul Pogba is the obvious one, his contract is up and it looks as though he’ll be courted by both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. A new manager might persuade him to stay if he’s appointed in time. But at the moment, I reckon he’ll go to Madrid.”
Rush feels that the French League is good but not as prestigious as the Premier League. So according to him if Pogba is looking for something challenging and exciting at the same time then La Liga is the destination for him to pursue.
“PSG are a great team but the French league isn’t as powerful or as prestigious as the Spanish league. So if Pogba has any real desire about him, he’ll go and challenge himself in La Liga. He can always go back to Ligue 1 when he’s a little older and, besides, Spanish football would probably suit his football better anyway,” Rush added.
Manchester United had mad expectations from the former Juventus man who was brought back to Old Trafford for the then record transfer fee of £89.3 million from Juventus back in 2016. Since then Pogba has donned the Manchester red for 224 matches scoring 39 goals.
However, Pogba has been far from the player that Manchester united faithful expected him to be. The Frenchman now is not even the part of the starting midfield at the club. The Frenchman has had his fair share of issues during the time of Jose Mourinho. In terms of performances also Pogba has been far from his best and is now waiting for the contract to end in June to move away from Old Trafford.
