Harry Kane reveals frustration after goalless game against Ghana

England captain Harry Kane has admitted he endured a frustrating evening in the Three Lions’ goalless draw against Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, revealing that he was effectively marked out of the game by the Black Stars’ disciplined defensive setup.

Despite England dominating possession, the striker struggled to make his usual impact as both sides settled for a point in their Group L encounter.

Expectations were high for England following their thrilling 4-2 victory over Croatia in their opening match, where Kane scored twice.

However, Ghana manager Carlos Queiroz employed a compact and organized defensive strategy that limited England’s attacking opportunities and prevented the team’s leading scorer from finding space in dangerous areas.

Kane managed only three touches inside Ghana’s penalty box throughout the match and was largely kept quiet by the African side’s defensive discipline.

England’s best chance came late in the game when a header from Nico O’Reilly struck the crossbar and fell kindly for Kane, but the Bayern Munich forward was unable to keep his effort down, leaving the scores level.

Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Kane acknowledged his disappointment but remained philosophical.

The England skipper explained that strikers often have to wait patiently for a decisive moment and admitted he failed to make the most of the chance when it finally arrived.

He added that, based on his experience, he would normally expect himself to score from such a position.

The 32-year-old also highlighted the role Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey played in neutralizing his threat.

According to Kane, Partey’s close marking restricted his ability to drop deep and link play, while Ghana’s crowded defensive shape made it difficult for England to create openings through the middle.

Although England delivered several crosses into the box, they were unable to make the crucial first contact needed to break the deadlock.

Despite the stalemate, England remain top of Group L with four points, ahead of Ghana on goal difference. Croatia sit close behind on three points, while Panama are bottom of the group.

The Three Lions will now focus on their final group-stage fixture against Panama, knowing a victory would secure top spot and confirm their progression to the knockout rounds.
