‘Looks like a top signing for Liverpool’ – Former Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand on new signing Darwin Nunez

Liverpool’s biggest signing in this off season of Darwin Nunez has been doing rounds in the media as everyone’s got an opinion about the young forward. With Sadio Mane about to leave and Mohamed Salah’s situation also taking a precarious turn, Jurgen Klopp needs his latest signing to click this season and get going when the season starts.

Former Manchester United captain and analyst Rio Ferdinand has also praised the young Uruguayan and feels that he has the ability to set the Premier League on fire with his goals for Liverpool. Although Ferdinand is not happy that he joined Liverpoorl, his rival team, he simply could not stop praising the former Benfica man. Manchester United were also interested but the astronomical demands pegged them back. But Liverpool were convinced that the youngster would not come cheap and were ready to invest in him.

“Watched a lot of this guy in the Champions League last season. Virgil van Dijk gave a glowing reference in a recent interview. Looks like a top signing for Liverpool unfortunately,” Rio Ferdinand tweeted after Nunez’s signing became official.

The Uruguayan forward will be a part of a formidable attack which will have the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota. Sadio Mane is on his way out so Nunez will be vested with the responsibility of scoring goals.

According to latest reports Sadio Mane is off to Bayern Munich, things are coming to a close between the two teams as the Senegelese forward has already accepted personal terms and is excited to don the Bayern jersey in the upcoming season.

Shifting focus back into the Premier League, the fixtures were revealed and Liverpool will face Fulham in their starting night at the Craven Cottage. They will then host Crystal Palace following a trip to Old Trafford to play Manchester United. They will then face back to back matches against Bournemouth and Newcastle United.

Looking at the first few fixtures, former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor feels that the Uruguayan can have the perfect start to the campaign with those matches. “The first three home games of the season, you’re looking at it and thinking, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Newcastle. For a new signing, for a new centre-forward, he wants to get a goal early,” Mellor told Sky Sports.

He also highlighted how Nunez has scored a lot of goals for Benfica and will continue that form considering the chances that Liverpool create in most matches. “You’re looking at those fixtures and thinking you’ve got every chance to get off the mark nice and early. He’s a top talent, he’s got huge potential, scored a lot of goals last season for Benfica. With the chances this Liverpool team creates, you wouldn’t bet against him scoring in one of those games early on,” he concluded.
