Bayern Munich face a pressing need to sign a top-quality winger this summer following Leroy Sane’s decision to join Galatasaray on a free transfer.
The departure is a significant setback for Bayern, who were keen to keep Sane for the upcoming season. To bolster their attack, the club has identified Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams as their primary target.
Williams, a 23-year-old Spanish winger, has been consistently linked with Bayern over the past year. His €60-65 million release clause and reported €20 million annual wage demands make him an attainable yet ambitious target.
Williams shone at Euro 2024, contributing to Spain’s title win with his pace and flair. This season, he has recorded 11 goals and seven assists for Bilbao, making him a promising long-term investment for Bayern. Preliminary talks have begun, but negotiations remain complex.
Bayern face competition from Arsenal, while Bilbao are pushing to extend Williams’ contract. Should the deal falter, Bayern have Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola as their backup option.
Barcola, in fine form with 21 goals and 14 assists for PSG, is a difficult target due to his long-term contract. Without Barcola pushing for a move, Bayern’s chances of signing him are slim.
Other potential targets include Kaoru Mitoma, Cody Gakpo, Eberechi Eze, and Rafael Leao, as Bayern aim to reinforce their attack.
With Kingsley Coman also likely to depart, the club may need to secure two new attackers to maintain their competitive edge.
Bayern’s pursuit of Williams or Barcola underscores their ambition to rebuild a dynamic frontline capable of competing in the Bundesliga and beyond.
However, navigating high transfer fees, player contracts, and rival interest will be critical to finalizing these deals before the summer window closes. The coming weeks will be pivotal for Bayern to reshape their squad and address the void left by Sane and potentially Coman.
